Ministry of Finance Archive Building – Bogotá, Colombia
Designed by Manuel A. Guerrero and Suely Vargas following their competition-winning proposal in October 2008, this 19,280 m² (207,530 sq ft) archive building for Colombia’s Ministry of Finance was completed in May 2014. The project skillfully merges contemporary architectural solutions with the historic character of Bogotá’s colonial center, preserving the city’s memory while meeting modern functional demands. The design strategy focused on contextual integration—respecting the scale and materiality of the surrounding heritage district—while incorporating sustainable features and cutting-edge archival technology. By balancing historical sensitivity with institutional needs, the building stands as both a functional repository and a civic landmark, demonstrating how thoughtful architecture can honor the past while serving the future.
